Problem analysis saves
100,000 Euro investment
It had already been reserved: a budget of 100,000 Euros for replacing the air cleaning system. There were complaints about the final product and the meat-processing company assumed that air contamination was involved. Before going over to investment, the company first asked for advice from Analytico Food. Not a bad move: inspection and thorough analysis of the production process showed that it involved a re-contamination in the filling line. With a few adjustments to the filling line the problem was solved and the one hundred thousand Euros could be spent somewhere else.
Too many round cheeses
A dairy company had a problem now and then with round cheeses. The result in each case was rejected batches of final product and that cost a lot of money. Analytico Food was asked to take a close look at the process practices of this dairy company. Multiple critical points in the process were observed for a time via sample-taking and microbiological research. This ultimately led to several adjustments that saw to a sharp reduction in the percentage of rejects.
Stealing from your own pocket
Look before you leap, yes, but too much caution is stealing from your own pocket. This is what a sweets manufacturer found out after Analytico Food had examined and evaluated his monitoring programme. Too much research on the final products and hardly any on the raw materials. A risk inventory provided a new programme. Many parameters were scrapped, resulting in substantial savings for the manufacturer. Additionally, new agreements were made about spokesmanship which, in the event of disasters and recalls, will be done by Analytico Food from now on.
Foreknowledge delivers benefits
A large vegetable importer asked for a general screening on some 225 pesticide residues. However, they did not include chlor-mequat, which had just surfaced. Analytico Food receives hundreds of samples to process every day from all over Europe and was thus well-aware at an early stage of the extent of the chlor-mequat problem, even before the market itself really knew about it. On the advice of Analytico and in consultation with the customer, it was decided to investigate this substance and the amount of the substance present in the product was indeed above the permissible limit. The customer blocked the product and thereby prevented a serious situation and a possible recall.
Is my laboratory ISO-proof?
Can my own company laboratory stand up to the ISO 17025 test? This question is put more and more often to Analytico Food. Customers of food producers regularly request the so-called BRC (British Retail Consortium) certificate, for which a requirement is the ISO 17025 standard in the laboratory.
To find an answer Analytico Food conducted an audit and examined whether the own microbiological or chemical research was conducted at a high-quality level. This time, too, the outcome of an audit had the result that the own research of a customer improved in quality and that part of it is now outsourced. All in all the quality and usability of the results improved sharply.
Delicious dessert spoils Christmas
Almost Christmas, ready for the introduction of a new dessert, and then it turns out that the shelf-life term is consistently not reached. Together with the technologist of the large Dutch retailer, Analytico Food audited the process. A pasteurised coating on the product turned out to have caused re-contamination. After a quick adjustment to the dosing line, the product could still be introduced before the Christmas season. The consumer enjoyed a delicious dessert and the retailer enjoyed his extra income.
